Pink

Tiny toes and little feet, Pitter-pattering on the kitchen floor. Hop up on the chair and put your feet on my lap, We’ll need paper towel in case we spill. Which lotion do you want, the pink or the blue? Pink. Of course. I’ll rub down your feet and your ankles and shins, Trying to stretch those tendons that were made for high heels. Which polish do you want? There are so many to choose. Pink. Of course, silly me. I need only a drop to cover your whole foot, The extra I make sure to wipe from your skin. Now it’s my turn? Ok, what’ll it be? How about blue for this hand, but what for the left? Pink. Of course, silly me, always pink. “Mommy says I will make a big mess, but I won’t! Watch this!” And you paint and paint, Scraping the spills, just like me. “Now I’ll do my own! Watch me, you’ll see!” And what color will your little fingers be? Pink. Of course, silly me, always pink, no other will do for my little Princess Pea.
