pinky promise !!

we made a promise 5 years ago

and i just wanted you to know

that i'm not planning on breaking it

and i guess nobody told me that it would hurt

because everytime i hear a song that makes me want to get better

my heart is a flower, withering in the too-bright light

of your sun

at 16, 17, 18, 19

even 20, 21, 22, 23

you couldn't have known

that you'd hold my hand every step of the way

i'm glad you do know, though

you know when to tell me you love me

and you know when to show it instead

i am so grateful that you found me

and it is beyond power of speech for me to explain this love

it's bigger than myself - can i even own it?

is the moon high enough?

are the pits of hell low enough?

i breathe in your kind smile

and the crinkles in your eyes push air into my lungs

your laughter urges my heart to beat one more time

and the gentleness of your fingers tangling with mine

presses blood through these veins

you are enough

and you always, always have been
