Pitchfork

The bed of a green pickup truck

in the headstone-grey driveway

Leaves fall in the dark of October

I cannot see them

My father in the living room

Come inside if he is still doing homework

I slouch on the roof of the Ford

dangle my legs off the back

White sweatshirt warms me

You are inside

solving simple mathematical equations

Come out and play with me

Assortment of landscaping tools:

hedge clippers, shovel, green barrel,

pitchfork; wooden handle is splintered

and bolted; curved metal end

I lunge

and land hard

Dark blood stains white cloth

I feel fine

The old lady comes out of the ER

crying hysterically in a wheelchair

Scar now lies on my forehead

next to the other from another
