Pitching Poetry Perfectly
You taught me more than how to read and write,
You gave me more than a blessed life.
I was only a kid when you showed me how,
There are many different ways to describe a cow.
Imagery, metaphors, similes too,
Are a far more interesting then saying “they moo!”
I read from the greats; Brown, Cummings, and Poe,
They wrote of hate and loss, and watching loved ones go.
To where? I ask, small and naïve,
To a place of love and sweet serenity.
Sonnets, symbols, rhythm, and rhyme,
We read and wrote and embraced our time.
Knowing is more than reading,
Like seeing is more than believing.
In between the lines stories and secrets are told,
You taught me this before I was 12 years old.
Life, friends, and our pasts,
Form stories that will forever last.
Alliterations, allusions, and ambiguity
Helped me embrace my creativity.
I write to not be afraid, to be different,
Because I’m one of a kind and heaven sent.
A quality of beauty and emotion are nicely balanced in my life,
Thank you mom, for adding poetry and music to my fiery strife.
