The Place that Forever Stays the Same

The Place that Forever Stays the Same
By: Matthew Muenzberg

Upon a beach, a man washed aboard
He found his way to me, his face quite poor
And he faced me with a sunlit tone
Which held more weight,
Than what was shone

He questioned, brisk but bright
"What is this place, I am curious inside?"
I could not help but to exclaim
"Why, it is a place that forever stays the same"

"This scene is quite familiar to me,
An abode I feel is most homely.
No coincidence,
Could convince one such as I
That this realm was made for me and my"

With a thought and a will, he deployed:
'Why stay here, good old boy,
When there is a world
Right outside,
Full of the great splendors of joy?"

"There are wonderful landscapes to see
And wonders beyond what man could seek
Why do you remain, alone on this island
Where safety is the only promise it can keep?"

"There are other worlds to explore
And many sights to behold
Between friend to stranger
There are many tales to be told"

"From horizon to shore
I cannot find words to say
What beautiful chances brought to you
If you would only refuse to stay"

As utterly shocked as I was
I stood there, quite in my pride
But no words came through my mouth
This truth was one I could no longer hide

"I understand,"
He went on again
"This is not what you had to intend,
It is quite fine staying in this lonesome
But you will never know
What you might become

"Life is more than your own little island,
It is full of treasures in this plane of sand
Please,
I implore with all my might
To go out and seek your favorite sight"

For  life is long but short,
Even that, you could not retort
So step out into that great big sea
And explore with no intend to please."

Before you leave this earth, one last time
Walk a thousand miles, and even some more
So when it is time to reflect on this past
You can say 'I have won gods great war',"

With that final word in the air
The man turned, and left my humble lair
As I saw his head submerge under the sun,
I thought to myself,
"That was really frickin' awesome."
