This Place is Not Home

This is where I grew up

But now I go back and feel alone

To call this home will crucify me

Burn a hole through all that’s familiar

Forcing me to accept a reality

That I tried so hard to hide

Rescue me from this place

For as long as I breathe

This place is not home

No longer what it once was

Its scars show through

Memories turn into curses

That eat at me inside

Begging me to look for answers

But I cannot find them

Through all this fog in front of me

Circling around what I once loved

Stuck here with no place to go

For this place is not home

The hate for it grows

Forcing me down a familiar path

As the road brings images of the past

One that’s unforgiven to last

No end for the curse of this place

For this place is not home

Struggling to now accept

That my future starts

Where my past ended

A present that will never exist

Past lying in the shadows

And the future just over the horizon
