The Plague

What happens after death?
Friends would mourn, and families would cry
But what if you went further in depth?
What would be different,
If it was you who caused your last breath?

Your mom comes home with a sickness in her core.
She finds your body in a room,
In a puddle of blood and gore.
With her tears dripping down on your face,
And her screams flying beyond the door,
She begs you to wake up,
Completely in denial that your life is no more.
You were her baby,
Now lifeless on the floor.

Your little sister hears the horrifying scream.
She carefully walks into the chaos,
Not knowing it would be so extreme.
While her face turns pale,
Tears begin to form and flow like a stream,
Her body is consumed with emptiness,
Because you and your sister,
Y’all were a team.

Your dad comes home to your soul and body apart.
He’s witnessing the corpse of his daughter,
Who he always saw as beautiful and smart.
He promised again and again to protect you,
But you still felt the need to depart.
He will never see his baby grow up,
And that, more than anything, crushes his heart.

Your best friend receives that aching call over the phone.
Her eyes swell and her airway shrinks,
Mainly because of the unknown.
She never knew you were in a dark place,
And she blames herself for not bringing you out of that zone.
You were always there for her,
But now you’re gone,
And she’s all alone.

Your boyfriend soon hears of the detrimental event.
He stares at the wall,
Feeling nothing but broken and bent.
You gave him his smile,
And he felt safe wrapped in your arms and your scent,
But now he has to live without you,
And he’s never felt pain to such a great extent.
He can’t feel for anyone else,
Because you were his everything,
One hundred percent.

So what happens?
Your mom can barely get out of bed.
Your dad keeps a bottle of liquor in his hand,
While your little sister has her own blood she wants to shed.
Your best friend is put on prescriptions,
And your boyfriend continues to stay underfed.
And so you ended your life,
But now everyone you knew is also dead.
