Plagued

First come the flashes

White and bright

Eyes sting with the threat of tears.

Terrified is the heart

of the tears that bring no sentiment.

They do not hold fury, nor anguish

They leak and torrent down heating cheeks.

Next comes the boiling

blood bubbling and coursing the body.

Veins form lines on the skin.

A picture of rage.

Words clog the throat

Suffocating on truths too thick, too heavy.

Heat is all that is real, all that is felt.

A warmth that is not welcomed but warns of what is to come

Embraced by insanity.

vacant of control.

The mind is fogged.

The body but a shell.

A vessel to be damaged and beat.

And beat and bruised it is.

The heart screams, but the brain does not listen.

As limbs flail to meet wall or flesh.

Finally, silence.

Fires now extinguished

The wave of white charred to black.

A blanket of ice coats the body but offers no consolation.

the worst has passed and left only fear in its wake

after some time, the link returns

but no longer does the heart sing

and nevermore will the brain listen.
