Planted Seed
My parents planted
four seeds in their garden.
The first three seeds sprouted,
bearing fruits too bittersweet for their liking.
My parents saw me
as their last chance
for something that they
could never harvest
but always longed for
—convention.
A stable life:
go to a four-year college,
get a job,
get married,
have kids.
Their dreams.
It’s not me.
Caught, anchored, trapped.
I want something more than that.
Go at my own pace
without burdening myself.
Embark on adventure—
freedom from these quaint suburban constraints.
Live in the moment and
appreciate my life before it’s too late.
My happiness, curated.
My life, enriched.
Myself, satisfied.
Take the risk,
sacrificing the conventional view of stability;
This is my life.
This is my choice.
