Plates

You know, since it happened, I've been thinking a lot about plates

Been thinking about how, before, they were glass.

I guess they went ahead and broke along with the rest of us

And now they're plastic.

Just as plastic as my smile in the summer.

Just as disposable as the laughter from my lips.

Ready to be thrown in the trash after a mere twenty minutes of resourcefulness.

I guess we no longer think about washing dishes, about dinner

Maybe we're so caught up in the sadness of it all that there's no brainpower even left to comprehend

"Dishes" "Plates" "Love" "Understanding"

You see, when one love dies, ten die with it.

You see, I loved him

And together we were the bright sun,

Him red and me green

And now our storm has come

And my smile is melting under the light

Of his new green
