play pretend
and we sing to the chaos of this quiet,
while the others take the silence too seriously.
and we jump all around the town folks,
shouting incomprehensible words.
and we go, la la la la la.
playing duck, duck, goose.
life’s a game and you should play it too.
why don’t you join us in ignoring the painful truth?
and just go, la la la la la.
block out the soundless air.
don’t give mind to the obvious,
play dumb and pretend everything’s fun, fair, and fabulous.
and we sing to the chaos of this quiet,
while the others decide to join us too.
and we all jump and we all laugh at the darkness trying to consume us,
since that’s all we’re brave to do.
sometimes, it’s all that we can do.
