Please See Me by Lauren Nelson
They say the best apples are at the top of the tree but yet I can't help but wonder is there something wrong with me? Should I move further down the tree so they will finally see me. For that is my dream for them to see me. Yet I'm told to stay put. They say one day he will climb the tree and see me. They say not to worry, they say it's no rush yet I can't help but blush and wish that he would hurry, for I've had too much. Wondering what he'll be like, if he'll like what he sees, or if he'll notice me. They say not to rush for I don't need he yet I can't help but feel that he needs me and I need he. I have so much to tell and so little time. I just want him to be mine. So should I climb down the tree? How happy I might be, for everyone lower down the tree seems to smile up at me. Yet they tell to stay for what if I fall and then I'm bruised and hurt and confused. I would be labelled rotten yet that's how I already feel, waiting at the top of the tree for someone to notice me. I would make my way back to the top of the tree where he's waiting for me. Asking why did you rush for I was coming for ye. Now you're bruised and hurt. I say it was so hard being at the top of that tree with no one wanting me I stopped believing ye for I felt that like everyone else you hadn't forgotten me. But then I awoke from the nightmare that had frightened me and said to myself you've got it ye! So I stayed and thrived at the top of that tree saying hey look at me at the top of the tree with a smile for thee. And at last he came for me and smiled at me and said boy is it beautiful at the top of this tree. And he proclaimed to little me how he loved and cherished thee so he carried me down from the tree shouting out yippee for I made to the top of the tree and there waiting for me was the best apple there could ever be.
