Pleased
For those who say
"You are precious."
"You are lovely."
"You are the best."
"You are perfect."
I immediately fly
to a negative spark in me
That begins to answer
"No."
My flaws reach to the moon
and back
My laugh is loud and obnoxious
and there is a way
I crinkle my nose when it itches
That I find appalling
But recently I have learned to stop
Stop dead in my traces
and say
"No, you need to be pleased."
"Maybe not with yourself, but with them."
The people who say these things
Believe it
They love you
For me
I may not be pleased
With myself
But I will learn to be
Like the people
That I make laugh
I need to see me
From the eyes of
Some one else.
