Plights of a Player

Ambition has two faces. One, the mask all see. The one worn when the spotlight is on And the stage is open, So the actor acts as optimistic as can be. The audience loves his show, They praise and applaud. Post-show he preaches, “Success takes patience” and “hard work pays off.” Yes, he’s the role model, But it’s a role not be scoffed For success takes patience, and hard work— Costs a lot more than just time. In love with the character, they do not see behind the curtains. The veil hides the sacrifices made, The late night rituals of work. The shroud hides the player’s true face and all his motives No matter how foul. For like jealousy, Ambition has an ugly head to rear. The player knows all of Ambition’s ills— He knows them too well, Yet he must not let Ambition be the blind leader Leading him to the depths of hell. The player knows the life of the player. His name signed in blood for the casting call. It’s up to him to balance and tame the two faces And not let his own ambition be the cause of a tragic fall.
