Pocket Full of Soul
I was always the girl who had her head in the clouds
And her mind long gone
But you always found a way to knock me down
So that I could come back to reality
I never wanted to face what was in front of me.
Countless times
I would ask God
Why this is happening to me
And where it would lead
I remember growing up
In a broken atmosphere
With no sun to see
But most of all
I remember what he took from me
The day I cried for someone to save me
While being taken on the cold kitchen floor
Was the day I became a
Fragile shell of my former being
You never once said you were sorry
Not even when we pass each other on the street
How could you to do this
To a child
Your own flesh and blood
And not care how much it hurts me?
You would rather turn a blind eye
But I know you see
I once was a hollow shell
But over the years
I've learned some things
I've learned that though things aren't perfect
You teach people how to treat you
I never thought my innocence would be taken so coldly
It caused me to grow up and change
My reflection mimics all of the these painful things.
The scars shine through in everything I do.
There are times when I feel
As though I can't shake this heartache
I am the splitting image of shame
But now it's time to fight
I want my soul back
Along with my inner light
You stole a piece of me that I will never get back
But that doesn't mean I can't be reinvigorated with new life
I stand tall, holding my head up high
Knowing you will never again get the satisfaction of
Seeing me cry
Or die a little more inside
I fight for my freedom
Breaking away from your binding chains
I fight for knowledge and respect
So that I will never again feel the icy breath of neglect
Now is the time for change
I will never allow you to control me ever again
I stand here alone
With my pocket full of soul
And know that
There is no place I can't go.
