Pocketwatch

Pocketwatch

Tick tock, tick tock
Do you have the time?
I do.
But can you keep track of it?
That I cannot do.

The shadows that follow me linger in that infernal watch,
Tormenting me each time I open it,
For I know that all the time that
Has passes could have been used,
Used for a better purpose
Other than worthless means.

With every tick and every tock
My being trembles
Especially when I just sit there
And stare at it...
Opening and closing
Opening and closing
Opening and closing
It laughs at me as the fingers continue to spin,
Never slowing
Never stopping
Just shaming me for letting them slip by.

Within that metallic watch lies my fear,
Getting twisted with the cogs and gears
And I fear that I'll be stuck here,
Listening to the laugh of the pocketwatch
As the world treks on without me.
