A Like Poem
I’m not writing you a poem to tell you we’re alike
cause we’re not
we’re two beautiful individuals
we just have a few shared ideas
I’m not writing you a love poem
because as i’ve learned
the hard way
love is a strong word
and should not be thrown around
treated like some common phrase
because it means the world to someone
that they mean the world to you
If you can’t already tell
this isn’t your average poem written about a girl
i’m not declaring an undying love for you
or telling you how i’ll never be the same without you
because those feelings have yet to come
but when they do, you better believe there will be poems about it
I’m also not going to write you a poem telling you how you look to me
How when I look into your brown eyes I see the earth
that when you sow seeds of happiness with patience and understanding
you reap a beautiful harvest
or how your lips have such a curve to them
that I swear they were made to meet mine
Or how your body, no matter how much you say you hate it
I say I love it and every curve of it
Or that your hands feel right in mine
How your voice makes me smile
Instead
I’ll write you a simple poem:
Roses are red
Violets are blue
Writing poetry is hard
but I like you.
