A Poem for Courage
The tears leaked through the cracks in my armour.
They fell and couldn't be stopped.
They fell for my mother,
My brother,
My family and friends,
They fell for this whole town.
For anyone, young or old
who knows the proximity of their end.
and lastly,
I cried for myself.
For all the years I would never get back,
For all the places that I would never go.
For the unfairness.
I cried until my hands became blurry
And the hurricane in my heart blew strong.
The pain wrapped its sinewy arms and I was trapped in a vise
I couldn't breathe.
I couldn't struggle.
I was entwined in a web i would never escape.
Eventully, the self-pity ceased.
The fire dimmed.
I was a hollow shell.
And the sun rose again.
