A poem by a girl whose finding herself.
I am not quite sure where I fit in in this world, but I know one day I’ll find it.
I am brave, the wars my mamma fought through is the glue that holds my pieces together.
Not abandonment, not homelessness, not depression, nor fear will hold me back any longer.
I am strong, my muscles may not be toned but I have learned to stand my ground, to not let society push me around, to fall and pick myself up off the ground.
I am emotional, I cry when I am sad and I will laugh when I am happy. A laugh so loud it becomes contagious, for I have lived too many years feeling nothing to not enjoy the joy that comes my way.
I am Latina, the trails my people and I have faced are trials that I will wear on my sleeve, trails that will not hold me back but push me forward. I am more than a checked ethnicity box, I am more than my skin color. I am just as qualified and capable as the rest. Boarders will not separate me from my people the same way societies walls can not keep me from success.
I am a dreamer, and one day I will change this world. I will make a difference, my voice will be heard.
I am not you, I am not her, I am not them, I am me, and today that is more than enough.
