A POEM I WOULD DIE FOR

There’s only a couple for whom I live

Shakespeare, Angelou, Poe and more

These are the few that have painted the picture as unique as Picasso

And as original as Van Gogh

The picture of poetry

Imprinted and framed in my heart and brain

Alas, there’s more to a poem

I bleed them, I breathe them, I drink them and I eat them

Not a need or craving, but more like an involuntary action, as opposed to a reaction

A poem carries a message

That’s what makes them true and pure

Whether of hope, peace, death, or sorrow

They force me to analyze, to think, and to never stop

And you can’t help but hear that message

As it sings to me – what’s right and what’s wrong

It’s up to me to decide – and as I do, the poem’s beauty only grows

I’d only die for a couple – the couple that are life changing and enlightening

A poem I would die for helps me remember

What the joys of life and simplicity are for

It makes us want to cry and laugh at the same time

Pushing us into an infinite reign of emotions and curiosity…..

And that, my friends, is what makes up the poem I would die for
