Poem Inspired by Music
The room is a mess
clothes scattered about
given life by the wind blowing from the open window
I have a map of the world but it doesn't make sense
Do desert beaches exist?
Two teenagers in love
montages and slow motion
somewhere in the deserts of Africa
cloudy pink skies
beneath a broken traffic light
empty four way intersection
a car sits
inside are two people, it is assumed
red, green, red, green
indecipherable shadows are cast upon the foggy windows
the streets are moistened by drizzle
(I got this from a movie somewhere)
It was a good night
white wine
Spanish maids
swerving on an empty interstate
they're throwing money out the window
it's caught by the wind
he's wearing a Hawaiian shirt
red with yellow palm trees
sitting on his roof decked in all white
champagne in hand
that night, he falls off the ledge
ballerina dances on a stripper's pole
she resembles me
red violets, teals, blues
at the hotel
shaggy carpeting
yellow crown molding and artificial plants
winding roads
in the middle of the Sahara
the clouds look hopeful
the balding taxi driver does not return my gaze
8:30 the clock says, but night or day?
a woman gunshot in a bodega
her eyes beg to say something she can't
as she dies in her lover’s arms
red and white pom-poms
cigarettes behind the stadium
it's football season in
late summer of 1960-something
recollection of memories I don't want to recall
I regret you
