a poem for losing your mind

Frozen lakes and snowy flatlands,

two figures stand.

side by side, entangled hands.

huddled tight with one demand.

stay forever, like we planned.

or leave one day, and see the way-

I decipher all your pained commands.

How long is forever?

“Sometimes just one second.”

stay for just one more, I reckon.

your heart is a deadly weapon.

you've the power to destroy or beckon,

into palaces your mind created

you could see our bridges built or cremated

If love was barren, ours is the deserts

if love is fluid, ours is the feathers

on the birds i've seen who glean the field

slashing and falling but never yield.

they see the worms not yet revealed.

I see the hurt you try to conceal

I killed a city that thrived on us

I killed the people who depend on love

I destroyed the world we embedded in

I crippled eden, I rolled in sin

without a compass I cannot sail,

just float on from my slow exhale

without a craft I cannot float

I haven't the energy to build a boat.

without energy I am just a vessel

nothing is your shoulder, where I would nestle

I saw the beauty you previewed

I saw you and knew I must pursue

if love was easy we'd all be happy

if love was hard it wouldn't happen

if love was you it would blind my eyes

if love was me I'd get more tries
