A Poem of My Poetry

Poetry is in my blood.

Like plasma, or white cells, it exists in my veins.

Bred of English professors and nurses,

It's clear which gene is dominant.

I picked up a pen, and set it to paper,

the words flowing like tears into tissues.

I find poetry in everything,

Even the way a person walks down the street.

My mind thinks in poetry. Doing calculus,

Or eating lunch, my thoughts come in stanzas;

Rhyming lines in iambic pentameter-

Haikus and sestinas and sonnets, oh my!

The poem connects; the poem defines in the

most ambiguous way possible. It does not ask

Questions, but answers mine. It does not judge,

but it understands, empathizes to every situation.

Each poem written tells a story,

But this one only tells part of mine. Complicated

And simple, I chose to be both, to be each part

And in turn each part of the poem will guide my life.
