A Poem of Relationships

He strokes my hair,

He calls me love,

He is the perfect boyfriend.

He comforts me when I cry,

He makes sure I’m alright,

He is the perfect boyfriend.

He makes sure I arrive alive,

He texts me when he’s thinking of me,

He is the perfect boyfriend.

He keeps the boys away,

He protects me from the rest,

He is the perfect boyfriend.

He says he loves me,

He says he’s always thinking of me,

He is the perfect boyfriend.

He pushes me to the ground when I am wrong,

He teaches me that he is the only one that loves me,

He IS the perfect boyfriend.

He yells at me,

He punches me,

He violates me,

But he loves me,

Isn’t he the perfect boyfriend?

It turned out he was not the perfect boyfriend,

He punched me,

He raped me,

He pushed me to the ground,

Now I am laying on this floor,

So cold,

Must hold onto what is left,

Bereft of the one I chose to love,

While I lie on this floor,

I die,

Wondering what I should have gotten instead,

The perfect boyfriend would have held me,

Would have yelled at me not,

Would have kissed me,

Instead of throwing a fist that didn’t miss me,

He should have been with me,

Instead of  stalking me, always talking like I was walking away

He would have told me that he didn’t like that friend I talked to night and day,

Instead of putting a hold onto my body leaving bruises on my skin that would stay for weeks.

He was not the perfect boyfriend,

He was abusive and allusive,

And couldn’t be diffusive on the situation

He was not the perfect boyfriend and I should have known before I met my end.
