A poem on taking the next step

A baby lies eyes to the ceiling

learning to crawl, small hands and kneeling

people surround standing on two

the baby wonders if he will know what to do

To take the next step

A child riding, wheels of four

knowing what's next and what's in store

soon he will have two wheels alone

his skills he must now learn to hone

To take the next step

Fifteen-years old, he looks out the car

A new campus seems dreadfully far

From all he's had and all he's known

his courage now must be shown

To take the next step

Two friends walk together it seems

surreal at points, like only in dreams

And they don't know when and they don't know how

If this is it, the time is now

To take the next step
