Poem For Trayvon

Poem For Trayvon Young and Black and 17 He looks like me You know what I mean? Smart and handsome Yea, that’s me too He was walking home What crime did he do? Armed with Skittles And a bottle of tea He’s a danger to society In a gray hoodie Caring, athletic, hardworking and smart Gunned down for no reason A hole in his mother’s heart My little brother is 9 Looks just like me Mom won’t let us out the house What a tragedy Polite with manners Glasses too Our skin is like cocoa What’s a mother to do? Keep us in the house Until your fear subsides? Maybe when Jesus returns We can go outside. Young Black and handsome Headed off to school The killing of our young brothers Is so not cool.
