Poetry is....

Poetry is the unspoken words that I meant to say, but I couldn't

The verses that I meant to spit, but I wouldn't

The love that I missed growing up

The three jobs my mother worked

and the time that I spent missing my father

Poetry is the depth of my soul, the coldness of my heart, the mere existence of me

Poetry is the racism,

the everyday criticism

the looks of disgust,

and the thought of failure

Poetry is my first love and my heart

the breakups,

the lose of love,

the missing existence of my love

Poetry is the face of me

the look in the mirror,

the tears from the night,

the bags under my eyes,

Poetry is my best friend

the one who stole my boyfriend,

the one that wasn't loyal,

the reason I am single

Poetry is my life.
