Poetry
The punch of the ‘p’ that pounces
Off my tongue up into my mind
Where it cracks the peace.
Pulling my thoughts into exploration.
Placing the world on a different axis.
Spinning and spinning until it finds the
Perfect letters to string together
To strike the personal conscience
In a whirl of profundity.
The “o,” a gasp of surprise
Opening the hidden with a one-size-fits-all key
Making the clear opaque and the opaque clear.
Obliterating the falsified truths
Like an omen, glaring into your soul,
Ready to overthrow every thought you
Thought you knew.
The echo of the “e” as it emerges
From humanity, the everlasting energy
Of unparalleled empathy.
Say it with me, “poetry,”
Can you feel the epiphanies emanating
From the very essence of
The word.
Which leads to the truth of the “t”
A verbal bullet tearing into the temporal lobe
Telling tales of ancient times
Commenting on our present
Traveling into the future.
The word “poetry” tantalizes the mind
Into stalled time
Treading the inky waters of tessellated paper.
It ends with the “ry”
The smooth blend of airy and hard.
No other word packs the intensity
Of overpowering clarity.
Each syllable holding a deeper meaning,
Each feeling different to every reader.
Poetry is my favorite word.
