But Poetry

Poetry...

I never really understood the meaning of it.

I knew that I needed a way away but I never could reach it.

But poetry...

It stuck in my head for awhile.

Still, I never picked up the pencil.

I doubted my ability to put my many emotions to life in front of me to stare in the eye.

But poetry...

She wouldn't let up, she kept pulling at me for attention.

But I was to cool to write from my heart so I turned my back to her.

Then there came that day, the day when she won my heart.

I couldn't fight anymore I had to get it all out.

I had to give it all to her.

Finally poetry...

Had won me.

Keeping me grounded and making me whole.

Poetry has become me.

Poetry has made me.

And most of all poetry has loved me.
