Poetry

Poetry is my lifeline

I breathe it in during the day

And dream about it at night

Poetry, my second wind

Keeping me sane, as long as I have a pen

Poetry is much more than just words to me

It is everything I feel, everything I see

I write about the things and people around me

I notice things that usually go unseen

Like a dream, only in reality

The things people would rather not see

Poetry is my heart, my soul

If I didn’t have it, I’d lose control

It gives me the strength to go on

Gives me an outlet when things go wrong

Poetry saved my life

Safe to say I almost died, twice

By my own hand

Poetry gave me the ability to mend

When I wanted to quit

Escape this life

Poetry gave me the strength to survive

Poetry is my everything

Without It I don’t know where I’d be

All my emotions can flow freely

Without the chance for it to overwhelm me

This poem is an extension of me as all of my poems are, but this one puts into words the effect that poetry has had on my life.
