Poetry Becomes Me
Young me was not much to see,
until I discovered poetry.
The sweet words taught me similes and metaphors galore.
Most poems I read, to others seemed like folklore.
The rhymes and rhythms spoke to my soul.
So I asked myself,
"How come I hadn't realized this before."
With quill, ink, and parchment I wrote,
every sound, symbol, and note.
Years pass by and different inspirations I spy.
Although, none compare to the first:
Edgar Allan Poe's, "The Raven."
His dark and old words kept me craving, almost raging for more.
Then deeper in I went to explore.
When I emerged I felt renewed.
Gifts to make people happy or sad,
were no longer subdued.
