The Poetry Experience

I. Love. Reading. When I'm reading a book, I don't just read it. No, I fall into the pages and become a part of it. I am a vampire, hunting for food. Or a warrior, hiding from my enemies. Or. . . a creature, trying to tell someone that, yes, the trees and animals are more important than the money you make in your factory. I. Love. Poetry. I love that it can be much deeper than it appears to be. I love the rhythm to it (well, some of it). I love that almost ANYTHING can be poetry. It's not specific. If it had a voice, it wouldn't say "Your writing must be this height and this size to be a poem." Instead, it would say "Come on in, you'd make a perfect poem just the way you are. Haiku, Free Verse, Concrete, we accept it all!" My fourth grade teacher used to make us read poetry. It didn't really seem to have a point. I mean, who really cared about salamander stew, or how that jet black cat had golden eyes. It became fun though. It has been a while since I was in fourth grade, but I still remember some of my favorites. Sometimes, when I'm really happy or really sad, I write a poem about it. Then, I can lock thos feelings in my little notebook to send them away! Or, I can save them, so the next time I feel sad, they are there to make me happy again. I did Forensics. Before you ask, it's a speech league, not a CSI type thing. You'll never guess what category I was in; Poetry! This past year was my favorite year. I did a Dr. Seuss poem. I got to turn myself into strange characters, and I loved it! Now that I'm a Senior, and my last Forensics season is over, I think it will be one of the things that I miss the most about high school. Poetry is a whirlwind of imagination. It has taken me everywhere I can think. I hope reading it catches across the nation. So we can all go here to there in a blink.
