Poetry Got Me Through The Day
A blank sheet, a new start
A perfect way to part.
A poem seems like words at first
But when you start the thirst for more burst.
When death strikes, it seems like there is no hope
But with words we can cope.
Poetry has come into my life
The way a knife pierces in the body.
I was drowning before poetry entered
But I was mentored
And I was censored.
Yet no longer will these poems be hidden
I will yell the words of my poems unbidden.
And poetry brings this world,
My world,
It has been furled.
With death knocking on my family door I could only think a poem can help solve my problems
With cancer knocking on my aunt’s door I can only seem to sink to the bottom.
Yet this poem helps me get out of the slumps
Helps me reach outside of the stumps.
Poetry has helped through the power of surviving
And I will keep arriving
Keep on driving
Through this thing called life.
