Poetry has always been in

Poetry has always been in me From the day I could walk Til the day I was free Free to fully understand the words I would put on the paper Free to express myself Through a language that was something greater You hear how rap is just another form of poetry Well listen to these rhymes that just seem to flow out from me Now looking back I know just who to thank for teaching me I thank my pre-school teacher She really had a hold on me She got my mind right To show just how I feel Using words and paper Instead of hitting, punching or throwing things I was the person who never really got much attention But when I started writing There I found my gift was given From then on I kept on writing Everyday about the fight I'm fighting Constantly being told that I would never make it And now I'm 18 College Bound with a pre-med major It's crazy the impact that poetry can have on you And I intend to give thanks just where I know it's due Because without this gift I'd have a simple wish to fill m life with something better To fill my poetry itch.
