Poetry is Life

When my pencil touches paper

the work of art you'll see

is nothing like Picasso's work

it's more like Cummings, e.e.

Though unskilled with paint and brush

I'm one who wields the word.

A weapon that's power is absolute,

and mightier than the sword

for when it's properly wielded

the word can mean the world:

it can truly calm emotion,

or hate and anger swirl.

Every word can give new life

to long born revolutions;

meaningless ideologies

suddenly gain animation.

Writing-painting with my words-

is totally vital to me.

There is no life without this spark,

especially poetry.
