The Poetry Life Chose Me

I started to write poetry

To hide all insecurity

Within my own thoughts and words

I found a sense of security

I grew up around music

Rap artists rhymed lyrically

I attempted to write my own rhymes

That reflected my own reality

I didn't believe in a diary

I thought that wasn't masculine

Friends would probably mock me

And thats the last thing I wanted back then

So I called it a " Rap Journal"

I carried it with me everywhere

New experiences led to new stories

And teachers soon became aware

I began to share my poetry

And found that others could relate

And that I wasn't the only one with problems

My peers and I were in the same space

I thank poetry

For the experiences and thoughts it's given me

Because I didn't choose the poetry life

The Poetry life chose me!
