The Poetry in Me

Poetry can mean a lot of things to a lot of people

But it has a different meaning to me, that’s why

My verses may be a little lethal.

It’s a literary work where individuals express

Their feelings and display their ideas by using a distinctive rhythm and style.

Writing poems is what I do to keep my brain

From stacking an emotional pile.

It started in the ninth grade when I went through a phase

Going down the wrong path, but coming out confused me

Like I was trying to get out of a maze.

A lot was going on at home and emotions were running high,

I did not know what to do with myself
The strong emotions I had I thought I was going to die.

I did not know what I was doing with my life

I could not find my purpose.

Reminiscing about the things I have done,

Wondering was it all worth it.

Later as time went on I continued to grow,

I developed more as a person

But self-esteem still a little low.

Then I found poetry, which is something I love

I have been doing this for quite some time

Trying to make it beyond and above.

Believe it or not writing poetry keeps me safe

It is what I do to stay stable

And it helps me to keep faith.

Without poetry who knows where I would be,

Not even I know,

But continuing to write it is all up to me.
