Poetry is Mine

Some think in paragraphs

Some think in words
I think in poetry

I didn't become a poet
I didn't study to become one
I was born one

Poetry are words with meaning
Words of value
Words that I need to express

I've lived around empty, meaningless words
I see Poetry as an escape
Where every word has meaning

Meaning.  Reason.  Purpose.
Poetry has wisdom
Poetry is how I learned to live

I remember grade school
My teacher of English
Teaching us poetry

I remember seeing my peers
Looking at me in envy
As I wrote quickly
While they struggled

I remember getting bullied
I remember crying
I remember darkness
I remember writing poetry

I continue to write poetry
It's my escape from this world
It's my freedom in the world of oppression
It's mine own work

I live in a world where nothing is mine
Nothing except my work
My thinking, my reason
Poetry is my work

Poetry is mine
