Poetry Plus Me Equals Learning How to Speak
Verses lines stanzas
I am bad at expressing
Writing paragraphs makes my focus weaken
But poetry I can speak.
I can use my words to express how
The wings of a butterfly compare to my sadness.
Or how love reminds me of alphabet soup.
Poetry was there when
Grandma died and I felt alone
With a poem, I had a story to be told.
A sonnet to express my love of the color of blue
And how each shade represents a new mood.
Poetry helped me cry and laugh.
It helped me relieve the troubles
That comes along with life’s breath.
Its versatile forms
For me a person who is versatile,
Poetry allowed a haiku to make sense.
And not just words that fit.
Poetry taught me to use my words.
To form words to sing like music.
If I hadn’t found poetry where would I be
But lucky for me, I found it, as it found me.
