Poetry saved my life

Through my darkest days, poetry was there

I remember writing poetry when I was scared

People treated me like I didn't belong here

I remember asking myself "why is life unfair"?

I thought about running away

Because I knew nobody would care

Poetry taught me how to be strong

Poetry taught me how to let go of the pain

I wrote down things that made me laugh

I wrote down things that made me cry

But through it all

Poetry saved my life
