Poetry Teaches

Any language

       langue        lengua        lingua        dil

Only has so many words

to express a thought

or so many ways

to explain a feeling

and to each language its own.

But the human heart and mind are infinite,

and most feelings have no language,

most lessons not learned through long explanation.

poetry does not restrict the poet

     by language

nor does grammar reign, and

the human heart and mind are infinite,

as language and poetry should be.

Poetry teaches

     spreading love through silence and

     painting an image through words,

telling a story through pictures and

     carving windows to other worlds,

     Connecting with pure strangers and

     through common lessons learned.

Poetry taught me perfect in the imperfect

different ways to learn

the silent strength of the pen

to give anyone a voice

and the true meaning of art;

it taught me to learn between the lines.
