Poetry through me

As a kid growing up I always had a lot of energy and tried putting my energy into the wrong places. Like I remember in elementary school I tried being a rapper and at the talent show in my afterschool program we had a boy band called "Run TMB" like much like the famous group "Run DMC" but "TMB" stood for "the monkey bars". We put our recess into it out after school time into it but the funny part as I look back into it now. We never practiced any rapping, we just practiced moves and making it a good show and as kids I thought we would magically just flow as a group. The day came and we made up some cheesey rap and people liked it, we were the talk of recess and as elementary kids that's like being a celebrity. But now as I look back at how I was as I a kid my creativity just looked for an outlet. I didn't realise once I started taking creative writing classes in highschool that I could channel my emotions through my writing and not only make my writing more real to readers and in this case I might have a fan but make it signify me through words. That's why I write poetry so I can use that side of me that no one gets to see. In highschool as an athlete they expect not only the stereotypical African American athlete but they expect you to be one dimensional like a point on a place in geometry. But through poetry I can be multi-deminsional and exist as more then a point because there isn't one thing that defines me. The only thing that will define me one day is my dreams coming true and the words that they use to define are a success and a person who can accomplish anything.
