Poetry WAS...

Poetry was my out.

I never considered it a talent.

Until I read it allowed and seen people

Could relate to my little ballad.

"Wait…I have some power."

I would think to myself

Poetry was more than just writing

It could heal human health.

Poetry is the key

Not just to the heart

It taught me that I could stop hate

Before it even had start

I could create love

By writing it on lined paper

I could stop harassment

From all of these internet haters

I could share my love

And my crush possibly agree

I could be anonymous

My lover didn't even have to know it was me!

Poetry was my out

But now I know better

Poetry is my skin

Flaunting it like a newly bought sweater

Poetry is the bond

Between you and me

Poetry is the branch of communication

In this world-wide language tree.
