A Poet’s Taqus

When you finally master

the nerve to say hello to a poem,

expect to be

sucked inside

so that you can bid it

adieu.

Beam breathlessly

as you are being changed.

Every line makes a real difference.

Your red cheeks

have been touched by the sun

and you have risen from the black hole.

Feel as the words

roll off you tongue

with ease.

Hear the soft sounds

of each hiss

as every “s”

starts to shiver up your spine.

You flinch as each

consonant slaps the back of your mouth

with sharpness.

Soak up

each unimaginable idea

and watch the power of your mind

slowly strip away.
