The Point of No Return
I stand alone at the point of no return,
Yet there’s one more step I need to take.
I yen to go back, but forward yearns,
It is a momentous decision I must make.
There is no obstacle in my way,
But there stands my disconcertion and unease.
Both of which hold me at bay,
For I’m so close to before, but ahead is within my reach.
Well, do I go onward alone?
Ahead where to fate I am prone?
Or do I stand here at the point many others stand on?
Waiting for an impossible second choice to come?
Only rarely is it ever too late,
For those who don’t embrace their fate.
Many instead come to understand,
The choice is often out of their hands.
So I might as well leave this point here,
Rather than wait until inevitability rules.
To those who “choose” to linger and loiter,
To cling to the past is the choice of fools.
