Poison

They found poison in my roots

Traveled to my brain through the passageways created by my veins

I can’t eat, sleep, or speak

The only time I can is when paper and pen meet

Or when Microsoft Word and my thoughts greet

Those are the only times I can eat, sleep, and speak

The found poison in my fruits

The only thing that allows me to speak the truth

What’s a girl to do without any sense of her youth

So I take my pen and pad

Or that MacBook with such an app

And let the truth flow through the innocence I can’t show

They found poison in my roots

Stains in my veins

Passion in my fruits

Wealth in my youth

The harder life tries to fight

Is the reason that I write…
