Poor kid, Rich City

The Anger of the forgotten generation or maybe just the forgotten class.

Graduated into a world where murder is commonplace,

Fear, anger, hatred, intolerance, racism, sexism, disconnection

The nuclear family is no longer here, car companies spit out the same model year after year.

No work, no pay. No joy, no play

Fear and anger aboud, the rich stare from under their crown laughing at us who roam their towns.

Slaves to the dream that is Broken; Searching for opportunities door to open.

Longing for the bright lights; scared and lonely like a kid sans night-light.

Frightened we try to challenge this.

But broken and battered weapons can't break this

Pattern of ineffectual reality

we went to college to learn how to help this. Spoke and learned things in high places.

Not we come down to street level, and try to look people in the eye level.

But all things can't come easy

Cuz I'm a poor kid living in a rich city.

In school they say be anything

But now we find we can't be anything

the people protest wall street, capitol hill.

But all it takes is one little pill for the rich to forget and laugh, throwing crumbs to us, the riff-raff

I'm not saying i'm entitled, i'm just plain angry

voiceless

But mores the pity, so they say

just a poor kid living in a rich city.

No matter what, the deck is a against us, we try to get the right schooling but the dollars don't let us

we try to play the game but the dice is loaded, we try to look for the dream but it is gone

Eroded

by time and voices shouting about the guy who knows what you did.

and how sad it was, selling out to reach where you are

Well I can't sell out with nothing to pay

I can't be sensitive without being gay

I can't wear my heart on my sleeve without people calling me radical. hateful on success

To those I say yes

I am radical, hateful to the powerful, cuz power corrupts absolutely

and I'm just a poor boy living in a rich city

The rich say we hate when we use our right to fight the corruption we see

We can't live in the system you've used and abused

till we're locked in jails while we cruise off into the sunset setting on a holocaust of common sense

Where fear of the other inspires the common man to run and hide when We need to fight and rise

So i call on the spirits that made us, the honesty, hard work, and fellowship, not trying to plug holes in a sinking ship.

Hard work can't be found when fists work to pound fear into our hearts

In these words I write I find hope.

Don't look to men like trump or the pope who grope for handholds on a slipping slope.

Look to your fathers and mothers who tried for you, died for you, for this future and change it, rearrange it to what it needs to be for

Poor kids living in a rich city

Don't settle like some , some grass with nettles and thorns you're born for more, loosen your tongues, start climbing the rungs

Stop chasing the bills, chasing the pills

Don't be controlled by the future, control it.

Don't go silently

Don't be lost kids in a rich city
