Postcard Poem

Dear Fear,

Legs criss-cross on a sunken bed

Sheets thrown, rest, tossed by the unawakened

Nightmare that lies before me, in sweat soaked sheets

Pillows thrown to the floor in unarmored anger

It is you, fear, that claims my sleep

And to you I write this

Eyes chasing sleep,

Mind racing fast,

Chasing to collect any attempt of my sanity

Rummaging my mind, entering

This nightmare before me

May you lessen your grip

Tight on me that it may be fear,

I ask you this

Listen to my need to sprint from this nightmare

This plea as it rattles off my tongue

Withdraw from me

And consider

My desire

To terminate this hold you have on me.

Sincerely,

The girl you have your hold on
