Potential

I could show you more than hands could with my words

More than simple squeezing palms that fire nerves across cold skin

And give you oxygen to sate the dying flames within your void of a chest

More than what would make you grit your teeth and clench your fists

I would make you cry, laugh, sing, dance, love, be sad, be mad and all the rest...

I'd make you feel

I could show you more pain with pens than all hands across the earth crashing

Onto scarred skin like flood waters destroying homes during hurricane Katrina

And I'd make you think about the last time you said you hated your life...

And I'd make you wish you hadn't said it

I could single handedly spark a revolution in your stomach and cause civil wars in

Your lungs....so you'd appreciate each measured breath

And savor every tasteless bite of hamburger meat and stale potato chips

So that you wouldn't complain about the end of the month...

And I could show you more than a poem that ends with a moral or a

Restatement of the first few words...but I could show you

Hands that have walked more miles of straight, blue lines

Than there are stars in the sky to count

I could show you love at first sight

And I could show love...at last breath.
