The Power of a Broken Promise
You know she’s hurting, but promise not to tell,
You see the scars, but she makes you believe she’s well.
You witness the tears, but don’t repeat what she says,
You see the texts, but keep in all you’ve read.
She feels your care, but makes you promise not to tell,
She shows her wounds, and wishes you find her un-well.
She opens her soul, yet silently cries you'll repeat what she says,
She sends you pleas, and yearns for wise eyes to have read.
You get desperate, and have to make a choice,
You care for her, and want to hear her voice.
You long for a text, and bombard her phone,
You drive to her house, and find her all alone.
They tell you, she’s alive because of your choice,
They say, without you she would not have a voice,
They call you, and put her right on the phone,
They tell you, she is no longer alone.
She hears you speak, and bursts into tears,
She reveals her plan, and held capitve fears.
She apologizes for the promises, and is glad you told,
She is released from bondage, and happy you let the secrets unfold.
You find relief, and burst into tears,
You broke her promise, and spoke all her fears.
You realize there’s trust lost, from the things you have told,
You pay the price, to watch a new story unfold
